Support the Arts!
Last Saturday night I spent the evening rubbing shoulders with artists, writers, photographers and musicians.
It was at the “Mix Mingle and Share” event put on by the Hampton Arts Network. Besides talking (great conversations) and eating (really good food!) I learned about the newly formed Hampton Arts Network. HAN’s mission is to promote and connect the arts to all in our community – young and old. This is especially important since funding for the arts is on the decline. Hampton has been hard hit since the loss of the Seacoast Art Association and the Hampton Playhouse.
Last fall, this not for profit group staged the highly successful “Hampton Arts Walk”. They are currently teaming with “Experience Hampton” (the group that brought back the Christmas Parade) to add another layer of richness to this great community.
Supporting the Hampton Arts Network is easy and inexpensive! Artists can join for $10/year, patrons $10/yr and business sponsors for $50/yr. For more information check out hamptonartsnetwork.wordpress.com . Their well-crafted site (which is a work of art in itself) has information on upcoming events, a spotlight section featuring a local artist, places where local artists are exhibiting and lots more!
I can’t draw a straight line, but it felt really great writing my $10 check – and thinking of myself as a patron of the arts…
